You’ll never go back to the box recipe again. This Rice Krispies Treats recipe takes the basic recipe we all know and love and elevates it to new heights by using extra marshmallows both in the initial mixture as well as at the end. The result is pockets of ooey gooey marshmallows peeking through with every bite. Don’t skip out on the salt either; it really does make them that much better. These also stay fresh much longer, IF they aren’t gone the first day!

Here’s how I made it!

First, gather your ingredients. You’ll need butter, Rice Krispies, marshmallows, salt and vanilla.

Line a 9x13 pan with foil (leave extra room so you can lift it out of the pan). Grease well with butter.

Melt butter over low heat and then add all BUT 3 cups of marshmallows. Allow the mixture to melt, stirring constantly. Add in your vanilla and salt.

Once melted, remove pot off the heat and stir in your Rice Krispies.

Stir in your reserved 3 cups of marshmallows. You dont want these to melt. The residual heat will melt them just enough!

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and with a buttered knife or spatula, press it down very well. Allow to set for an hour before removing from the pan and cutting into squares.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 8 tbsps salted butter

  • 800 g marshmallows - 3 cups set aside

  • 12 cups cereal

  • 1 tsp kosher salt (if using another salt, halve this)

  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. In a sauce pan, melt the butter oven low heat, then add the marshmallows (leaving 3 cups aside for later.)

  2. When the marshmallows are melted, add in salt a vanilla and stir.

  3. Off the heat, add in the cereal and once incorporated into melted marshmallows, add the 3 cups of extra marshmallows and stir.

  4. Spread the mixture with a buttered spatula into a 9x13 foil-lined, greased pan.

  5. Allow to set for an hour, remove the bars by lifting the foil sides out, and cut into squares.
