Homemade Hamburger Helper
Recipe
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp flour
5 cups beef broth
2 cups crushed or strained tomatoes (I usually take my can of plum tomatoes and blend it up until smooth)
1/2 tsp each dried oregano and basil
1 tsp salt (to start, then adjust)
a few grinds of black pepper
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 lb pasta of choice, I like something like Mafalda Corta which look like tiny lasagna noodles
1/2 cup cream + 1/2 cup milk
3 cups shredded cheddar
Directions:
In a big pot, add a splash of oil and brown your meat over medium-high heat.
Add your onion and garlic and cook until fragrant, 1-2 minutes.
Turn down heat to medium and sprinkle flour over meat mixture and cook for 1 minute until no flour streaks remain.
Add broth, tomatoes and seasoning and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, add your pasta and cook until al dente over a simmering medium heat. Stir occasionally until pasta is done and sauce is thickened.
Turn heat down to medium-low, and add your cream and milk.
Turn off heat and stir in cheese until melted. Serve immediately.
