Don’t ever buy that jarred pizza sauce again. It’s so easy to make at home and the flavor can’t be beat by anything you can buy!

Here’s how I made it!

Some aromatics and good quality canned tomatoes are all you need. Invest in the better tomatoes for this, because they are the star of the show. San Marzanos are the best, but a good quality plum tomato brand will work.

Simply simmer until flavors come together, adjust for salt, cool and enjoy.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 can good quality tomatoes, San Marzanos or something similar.

  • 1 shallot, grated

  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 1/2 tsp each dried oregano, basil and chili flakes

  • 2 tbsp EVOO

  • 1 tsp kosher salt to taste

Directions:

1. In pot, heat up your oil then simmer your shallots, garlic, chili flakes and herbs for 30 seconds or until fragrant.
2. In a bowl, pour in your tomatoes and crush them using a masher or a fork. I like leaving it chunky but if you want it smooth, use an immersion blender. Transfer to the pot.
3. Bring up to a simmer, add salt and then reduce heat to low.
4. Allow to cook down until it’s as concentrated as you like. I usually let it go about 1/2 hour.
5. Let it cool and enjoy it with your homemade pizza
