Cheesy Garlic Croutons
Never buy store-bought croutons in a bag again! Homemade croutons take barely any time and you can use old bread you have on hand, along with whatever dried seasoning you have in you pantry.
Here’s how I made it!
Cut whatever stale bread you have on hand. I used a baguette, but you can use any loaf or type of bread you have. You want 8-10 cups of cubes.
Add your seasoning along with your olive oil and give it a good stir.
Arrange the croutons in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven for 15-20 minutes.
Watch it closely and remove from the oven when golden brown.
Sprinkle your cheese over the baked croutons. Put it back in the oven for another 5-10 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 baguette, day old if you have but fresh is fine
¼ cup EVOO
1 tsp kosher salt
Pepper to taste
½ tsp each granulated garlic, paprika, dried oregano and dried parsley
¼ tsp dried basil
½ cup finely grated sharp cheddar (or parmesan)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut your bread into 1 inch cubes and toss with salt, pepper, seasoning and olive oil.
Arrange on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Take the baking sheet out of the oven, sprinkle with cheese and put it back in for another 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted.
Cool completely and serve in soup or on salads.
